(It’s a dog’s life…at least for the rich and famous!) They were led through…apparently headed to their own private jet! I can only imagine where they were going. The gates were opened and the dogs were then each greeted by name, too. The owner was greeted by a smiling, uniformed man behind a gate. I watched nearby as a man opened his car door and unloaded two huge Great Dane dogs. And in fact, most of them are!Īfter our unscheduled drive-by (Sorry I didn’t trust you, Stella!) we pulled into the parking lot which was ringed by all of those low, grey buildings. And even with Stella’s help we drove right past the building since ALL of the grey, one story buildings look like airplane hangars. It’s a unique location, to be sure, since it’s located at the Executive Airport. And let’s just say Stella got quite a workout. I pulled out my smartphone and I put my GPS, Stella, to the test as we headed into an unexplored section of Fort Lauderdale. I’d been hearing rumors about this popular (yet hidden) cafe, so one morning Peepaw and I set out to find it. His plane was struck by lightning and split apart somewhere over Oklahoma. Uncle George died doing what he loved…flying. At an opportune moment, George threw a “dummy” (dressed just like his passenger) out of the plane! I’m surprised the man’s mother lived through the “show.” The passenger’s mother was in the throng of people watching as George and his passenger flew over the crowd. The stories I’ve heard about Uncle George and his daredevil stunts are epic! He was well-known in the community for flying his small plane UNDER bridges! Once he took a local man up in his plane during an air show near our small Iowa town. (I guess it’s in my blood.) My dad was a mechanic who worked on airplanes in WW2. Dad’s brother, Uncle George, was an airplane pilot and a flight instructor…and a CRAZY one, at that! I’ve always been fascinated by airplanes and airports. How about Eggs Benedict…with a side of JETS and HELICOPTERS…and Fried Bread Pudding for dessert? He asked for the dressing on the side to make sure he only added enough to give extra flavor.Īll in all we were very happy with our food selections and want to go back and try it out for breakfast next time. What’s for breakfast at the Jet Runway Cafe? The goat cheese comes in two small balls on the plate and all the fresh spinach and fruit make for a combination of flavors. The shrimp come on a skewer and were nicely blackened which is how Jerry likes them. He happened to be the healthy eater of the three of us. Jerry had Crispy Goat Cheese Salad, blackened shrimp, baby spinach, candied pecans, strawberries, blueberries, and balsamic vinaigrette.

The egg gave it a new dimension of flavor mixing with the burger. He said that his was nice and juicy and cooked exactly how he likes it. They add a nice little flare by stamping the bun with their logo using a hot iron. He got his cooked medium with onions, lettuce, tomato, cheddar cheese, mushrooms to boot. This gave him the best of both worlds by having his breakfast and lunch together. Lewis had a burger with fried egg on it since he really wanted breakfast. It was accompanied by french fries which were very good as well. The pretzel bun was a nice alternative and had a buttery coating to it and just a hint of salt. It was perfectly cooked, as many places try to give you something that is medium well when you ask for well done because they think you are ruining your food. (I know I know, people always make fun of me for that) Then you have cheddar cheese, and crisp bacon. It’s a half pound of Angus beef which I always get well done. Karl had a Bacon Cheeseburger on pretzel bun. They also now deliver Mon-Fri 9am-2pm with a $10 minimum order. If you have a special event or group, they will do evenings for private parties and events. Jet Runway Cafe is only open for breakfast and lunch every day except they are closed on Sundays. We loved this as it really gives you something different to do when eating. Now it is not those huge jumbo jets, but a good mix of small jets, propeller planes, and even helicopters. One of the coolest things about this place is that you can sit and watch all the planes taking off and landing. It’s located right on the hanger section of the airport. If you have never been here, it might take some looking around or using a GPS to find the restaurant. Lauderdale Executive Airport off of Commercial Blvd. We thought we were in time for breakfast, but unfortunately we were not, and had to settle for lunch. The three of us decided to stop by here on a Saturday morning.
